Detail Inspiration: Corded Insertion

Corded insertion is a really beautiful addition to a garment. You can easily make your own cording and add it to a garment similarly to the way you would put in a lace yoke.

There are so many different ways of making a corded insertion. One of our previous inspiration posts featured roulea which is a wonderful way to use cording.

Have you ever added a detail like this? Do you have any tips for adding a pretty insertion or sewing cording in patterns such as these?

No, but I’m going to google how to make my own! It looks so couture and fabulous! Have Colette got a tutorial, I wonder?! A simple shirt dress would look so classy with this detail.

Beauts, that’s going on my 12 in 2012 skills list!!

These are so beautiful, I’d love to make something integrating cording like this. I recently got a book (which I first read about on your blog, thanks! btw!), Secrets of the Couturiers, by Frances Kennett, which has some good technique parts on making cording.

Gosh its so delightful gorgeous! Like a confection of some sort. I’ve never actually tried it, but I’ve definitely bookmarked this for future reference! Love! Must check out the above book too!

Ohmygosh this is so beautiful. I’ll definitely have to add this my repertoire. :) I could see this used on a lightweight summer coat. Thanks for showing this lovely detail.

I love this idea – I am also going to add this to my inspirations. I have the perfect idea on how to use this too!! Now to learn how to create what is in my head!

Love that first dress and jacket, the dress is so demurely sexy…is that an oxymoron?

Lovely! And cording is so easy to make if you want to get really ambitious. I can see myself using this technique in the future.

This is wonderful! I’ve always wanted to do insets but found lace insets a little too feminine. The cording, on the other hand, is elegant while still being sporty while still being professional. I especially like the dress and jacket in white.
