Detail Inspiration: Decorative tabs
Love the idea of using decorative tabs on collars, cuffs, or pockets like these very different vintage dresses from Dear Golden and Fab Gabs.

Decorative tabs! I’ve been thinking of doing this for a while in my sewing. Kwik Sew has this darling knit top on the neckline with tabs and a silk tie. I think you could pretty modify any deep scoop t-shirt pattern for tabs. But I love the idea. You can switch out ties…even use guy’s ties perhaps. I think it would be a great way to use some of the narrow ties you see at the thrift stores, the ones with mustard stains. Or even use ribbon ocassionally. But you’re so right tabs are used often in vintage sewing (I’ve seen it in knitting patterns too – there’s a darling knit Australian pattern from the 1930s that I’ve favorited in Ravelry that has ties). Oh one other idea re ties – knit some…some featherweight ones using a gauzy yarn like Kidsilk Haze would be dreamy.

YES! I’ve been obsessed with decorative tabs since last year, but have yet to work them into anything. I particularly love the second example. I could see them on a Western-inspired vintage skirt, too!

Ooh, good idea! There’s something about the pointed shape that does say western.

Ack, that is too adorable! Like Peggy from Mad Men, but with a dash of Joan thrown in!

How coincidental, I just pinned this image from Downton Abbey yesterday to my inspiration board http://pinterest.com/pin/149955862564665714/ I love the tab detail and want to incorporate it on a long sleeve knit for winter.

Yes, that second dress is a knockout, vintage and bang up to date, reminds me of something Colette Patterns might do!?

Oh, I really like the single tab on the neck of the first dress. It turns an already gorgeous dress into something fun and slyly confident–and even a little silly (in a good way!).
