Detail Inspiration: Interesting Cuffs

Cuffs are a great place to add a bit of detail. Just look at this beautiful vintage dress! The sleeves have tucks in them and the hem of the sleeve is piped.

For a fancy look, consider beading your cuffs, and even your collar to match. Pearls in different sizes would also be very pretty. If that’s too much bling for you, consider embroidering the cuffs with a simple design.

Take a look at this cute cuff! The rounded edges are adorable. This would be so cute added to the Violet blouse. You could even take it a step further and scallop the hem of the cuffs.

Have you made any fancy cuffs? Would you add any of these details to your garments?

Great ideas!
Adey Lim’s cute cuffs on her peter pan collar blouse were my inspiration for the cuffs on my polka dotted Peony! Love it.

I love that vintage dress. I want one just like it.
Well…nearly. I’d make the bow detachable.

When I made my jasmine blouse I had the cuff match my skirt fabric

If I sewed it again I would have piped the collar too.

How cute is that flower blouse! I think cuffs are hard, I ususally make them straight or just pust elastic in the hem, but this is really inspiring. Thanks!

This is quite inspiring. I generally make plain cuffs, although I have made contrasting cuffs a few times. I am always so inspired to see how others make patterns their own by making small changes or adding details. I love the big bow on the first dress and the cuffs, of course, are great too. I love the flower blouse too.

Oh man, I’ve done beaded trim work for one of my costumes, and it’s gorgeous but takes SO LONG. The shiny is worth it, though.

I found a kindred spirit in edging cuffs!! I find silk ties ( thrift stores and like) and use the bias fabric to line cuffs and necklines as couture finishing touches as introduction to the jewelry on the skin. It is so becoming…and our fashions today need that special touch to say we are worth the extra to not only extend the life of an older suit jacket but to continue the beauty of our everyday lives.

I just made “James Bond” turnback cuffs for a blouse! I actually had to do a lot of research on “gentlemen’s” fashion for those, but it was worth it.
