I thought it would be fun to share a few things I’ve been inspired by (or just admiring) lately.
The dress above is handmade in Berlin by FemKit. I think if I had a dress like this in a black double knit I’d probably never take it off.
I take a lot of baths when the weather gets cold and this black amber and lavender bath fizzy sounds right up my alley. Plus it has a skull on it, so that’s probably how I’d spend my halloween if we weren’t going to be on a plane to Mexico City that day.
I’ve been really admiring this handmade velvet applique blanket. My cats would destroy it.
And speaking of my cats, this kitty looks so much like Colette it makes me gooey.
A solid bronze cuff that would look fantastic with the dress above.
I’ve had these gorgeous glass buttons with tiny gold stars in my stash for years – YEARS! I have to figure out what to do with them.
Have any of you ever done Sashiko embroidery (like this lovely cushion)? I’m really intrigued by its simplicity and wabi-sabi aesthetic.

These terrariums would look great in our office, if I could ever remember to take care of house plants.
I’ve been using the oil cleansing method lately and could really use some good face towels. These hemp, linen, and raw silk versions have got me thinking of making some of my own.

Re: starry buttons. A navy blazer is classic. I enjoy seeing your inspirations. Keep sharing them with us. You are helping me identify my own. You have a very cool stash, too! Wish I had been smart enough to save some of the buttons I’ve had in my life.

I have not tried, or even heard of, Sashiko embroidery before. However, I did make a pillow and small quilt in the kantha style, which is very similar. It consists of a running stitch of embroidery floss in straight lines or boxes. In India, they do it to recycle old saris into quilts, and, recently, they have become popular among interior designers.

Love that phases of the moon fabric! But hand stamped? Yikes. Wonder if something like that has been created at Spoonflower?
I have a pattern (McCall’s 6354 – a simple surplice tunic/dress) that includes Shashiko embroidery on one view. It’s rows of interlocking circles around the hem. I think it’s OOP now (I just bought it a year ago, though, so some places may still carry it?) There is actually a separate piece on the tissue that is used to transfer/trace the pattern onto your fabric, and the sewing instructions include instructions for the embroidery.
Oh, and the buttons? I’d use them on a brightly colored (solid) dress – red or orange or emerald or sapphire would contrast nicely with the black. Hawthorn or maybe even Ceylon. Of course you could also do a skirt (Beignet or Zinnia). And an Anise jacket would look awesome with those buttons as well.

also I been using oil cleansing method for a while now and I recommend it…
but sometimes I switch off with my homemade soap–(been making that for about 20 years)…

Ooo I love that black dress and those buttons aye, aye, aye. You need to make something where they are the star. Something plain and simple and a contrast in colour. Great blog post.

The buttons made me think of the European flag. I know that doesn’t help at all, but if I had them they’d be heading for a themed dress. :-)

I’ve been oil cleansing for oh about a year and a half now and I LOVE it!! My skin always felt dry and oily simultaneously and now it’s much more balanced.
I recently bought some raw silk from dharmatrading.com at a ridiculously low price and it’s lovely! They have a silk/hemp blend as well that I bet would be divine.
