Giveaway: Sew Better, Sew Faster class from Craftsy
I’ve noticed that among the things home sewists are always eager to learn about, industry sewing methods are near the top.
First, we want our clothes to look at least as good as ready-to-wear. You know, well-formed cuffs, perfectly positioned plackets, clean topstitching, and all the other little nuances you expect when looking at a well-made garment in a store.
Second, industry techniques properly adapted for the home can save a whole bunch of time. There are tons of little tricks that experienced pros use, whether it’s in a factory setting or a small workroom.
So I thought you guys might appreciate this class from Craftsy called Sew Better, Sew Faster: Garment Industry Secrets. Craftsy has offered to do a giveaway for this class (click this link and sign up to enter).
The class is taught by experienced seamstress Janet Pray, and comes with a pattern for a casual jacket (which I think would look really cool in dark indigo denim, personally). She walks you through each step of the construction, teaching you little secrets along the way. You’ll learn about things like interfacing, pressing techniques, topstitching, and sewing cuffs.

I have been sewing for over 20 years but when i took a sewing class to make an apron last spring, taught by a woman who sews and designs for industry, i learned so! much!!! A lot about ironing and finger pressing, rolling hems ans turning corners. Invaluable. Its awesome to see more access to this ki d of info. Thanks colette and craftsy!

I purchased this class but have not yet made the jacket. I like to watch my Craftsy classes all the way through before I purchase materials or begin a project. This is one of the best classes I have purchased from Craftsy. Janet Prey is very organized, easy to follow, and knowledgable. I have been using so many of her techniques in everything I make now. She also provided information that helped me to choose my new sewing machine!

I love this class. I have made 3 of these jackets so far. The drafting of the pattern is great, and Janet is a wonderful teacher.

I have many Craftsy classes and this is by far one of my favorites. Janet is a fantastic teacher and I highly recommend this class. My jacket turned out great and I was so impressed that I put in my sleeves without using pins!

Janet Pray is the niece of Margaret Islander who originated the Industrial series. I was thrilled to see that Janet Pray has them now available at Craftsy. Janet’s style is so easy to understand and she has more videos planned. I have already purchased 2 from Craftsy and they really make it easy for me to watch at anytime.
The techniques different and I have learned so much. Looking forward to more of Janet’s video’s.

This was the first class I purchased like others I have not made the jacket as of yet only because I want to get a little better at topstitching before making the jacket. I want to make my jacket with fabric that cost a little more than I want to use with a practice project. Janet makes me feel as if I could do it with her style of teaching so I am hoping to tackle the jacket very soon.

I have signed up for many Craftsy classes and this is the only one I have actually completed thus far! It was well worth it – learned and relearned so much. Janet Pray is an excellent teacher. I am preparing to make a second jacket – this time for my BFF.
