What kind of fabric did you use? I used a brown plaid cotton by Moda French General. Not sure if it’s specifically a quilting cotton, but it has a nice drape and is not as stiff as some quilting cottons I’ve used.

How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I was inspired by a cool plaid maxi-dress I saw on the street and Eunny’s gingham Macaron, featured here. I love plaid, especially when it’s a little off, like with a surprising color or going in different directions. I cut the yoke, sleeves, and waistband on the bias to achieve that in my dress. The bright coral in my brown plaid was just interesting enough while still being easily wearable. I could never wear the loud maxi-dress that inspired me!

What thoughts do you have about the project? I’m pleased with the way the cut and lines work for me, a pear-shape with a couple sizes between my top and bottom halves. It gives the illusion of curves on top, which I don’t have, and flatters the curves I do have below. I lengthened the skirt because I’m not used to wearing such short skirts, but I think I’ll go short next time. I loved working with the pattern and found the sleeve construction, which was new to me, really clever yet simple and flattering. I’ll definitely be making Macaron again.

Thanks, Lee!

I shy away from plaid because I don’t have faith in my ability to use it well, but you’ve given me courage to try again! That dress looks wonderful on you!

Wonderful job, Lee! I love when the grainline of plaid is mixed in a single garment.

This looks amazing and has really inspired me. Have almost finished my Clovers and Jasmine, so this will probably be my next project!

Darling! I love the way in which you cleverly avoided the hassle of matching the plaids at the sleeve by putting them on the bias! Very very clever! It’s a fabulous dress on you and I too am such a lover of plaids. Fantastic job!

Gorgeous dress! I love the way you rotated the plaid on the top portion, it’s something different and still helps to showoff the sweet heart detail, love it!

Wonderful! Such a great vision for this dress . . . and it’s good to know that macaroon works in a light-weight cotton, too. Hooray!

Thamk you so very much, everyone! I wish I was as clever and masterful as you suggest; the plaids don’t match at the sides despite my careful planning, and the way the bodice and skirt line up in front was a lucky accident. I do love wearing it, which helps my modeling. Don’t be afraid of plaid!
