Her post about the skirt: The Ginger Super Skirt
What kind of fabric did you use? Dark blue denim with a blue polka dot cotton for the inner waistband facing.
How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I always seem to gravitate towards neat, fitted styles and that’s what appealed to me about the Ginger pattern, which is a more fitted shape than other A-line skirt patterns. I decided to use denim for this version as it works well with my two favourite retro-style prints: gingham and polka dots. I used a polka dot print for the inside waistband to break up the denim a little. I’ve made quite a few blouses from vintage patterns recently which look best tucked in, so I thought the high waist of this pattern would work perfectly with them. And it does! The gingham blouse in the picture is a 1950′s pattern and is a perfect match with the Ginger.
What thoughts do you have about the project? I’m pleased with the fit – it was a really good, flattering fit for my body shape (curvy) and I didn’t have to make any adjustments to the pattern. It was also very quick and simple to sew so I’ll definitely be making more than one version. The denim I used for this version was a medium/heavy weight fabric which accentuated the A-line shape of the skirt. It will be interesting to see how the pattern works with a fabric with more drape to it and if the shape looks as good. Overall I’m thrilled with the project and I know I’ll wear this skirt a LOT!
