Join me for a (free) online fabric talk!

I must say, I don’t like the word “webinar.” It kind of creeps me out. So I’m calling this little talk I’m doing an “online workshop,” at least here among you guys on the blog. Doesn’t that sound nicer?

So what’s this all about?

Basically, my point of view is that almost everyone who sews (or wants to sew) loves fabric. It is our medium of choice, and it offers almost endless possibilities. But it can also be quite confusing, primarily because of the amount of terminology involved. That’s why I devoted a chapter of my book to it.

This talk is all about choosing the right fabric for your sewing projects. It’s based on the content in my book, so if you don’t have the book yet, it’ll be a nice little preview of that chapter. And if you do have the book, it’s a good way to review the chapter in a more interactive way. The talk will be illustrated with slides, and we’ll have a Q&A session at the end.

I’m going to talk about:

  • How fabric is made (and why you should care)
  • How to use your senses to better understand fabric
  • How to speak the language of textiles (including a textiles primer)
  • How to choose appropriate fabrics for your sewing projects

I understand that there will also be a special discount code offered at the end, for ordering the book and other fun stuff from the Martha Pullen site.

This is totally free, but registration is limited, so you may want to register now over at Martha Pullen.

ETA: I forgot to mention this in the post, but even if you can’t make the time, register anyway and you’ll have access to the recording of it!

Hi Sarai, I have just registered for your talk on November 10, and thank you very much for the opportunity.

I am a bit confused about the time: I live in Italy, do you know at what time I should go on line to catch it? GMT would be useful as well as we are just one hour ahead of it.

Many thanks!

I just looked it up, it’s 6pm GMT, 7PM CET.

Here is the time converter I used.

I am glad to see heirloom sewing and modern vintage can mix so well.
I am a sew beautiful reader, and I have been enjoying reading your blog for a few months. I am working the nerve to get one of your pattern….but your book is on my Christmas list.

Just registered as well. What a great opportunity. Thank you, Sarai.
@ Pamela: for CET just add 9 hours to the PST (during winter, 10 hours in summer). This should give 9.00 pm if I’m not totally mistaken.

It sounds about right! Thanks a lot

Hey guys, this isn’t correct. You do want to add 9 hours, but nine hours after 10AM makes it 7PM.

So nice idea Sarai! But, I am with Pamela: could you, please, translate the hour in GMT time, much more easy for your fans all over the world ;-)
Like most of you, I love love love fabrics. Speacking of terminologie, It’s funny and confusing to me to see sometimes the same fabric is named differently in french or in english, not mentionning the other european langages… This fact as nothing to do with the translation but really with terminologie: funny!
I am not sure, I can follow your “webinar”, but I am waiting for my copy of your book with great anticipation (about 4 weeks to go for France, yeah !).

Hi Pascale, see my comment to Pamela above! I just used an online time converter, so anyone else can use that to find the time in their local zone.

It actually seems the time is more convenient if you are in Europe, since it’s in the evening!

Sarai – any plans to do another webinar for those who work and can’t get away for this? or is it being recorded? I would love to attend but won’t be able to get away from work!

Jessica, I added a note above since I forgot initially, but it is being recorded! If you just sign up, you’ll have access to that.

I have a class at that time (well more like if I signed in live I would end up skipping class if the Q&A ran long) but have signed up for access to the video! Looks like it will be great!

I just registered but the time stated is very confusing. On the Martha Pullen site it says the webinar starts at 1 EST but in the confirmation email it says that it starts at 12:30 EST?

Hi Sarai, I had signed up for the webiner (I keep wanting to type weibner) and i couldn’t make it. I checked today if i could still catch the recording but it’s not there anymore. Is there any way that I could see it?

Thank you!

I got the same thing, too. But they are speaking about an event on November 2011. I haven’t the slightest idea how to sign up for the current fabric talk. Any help?
