Photos from Powell’s

I had an amazing signing this weekend at Powell’s, and just wanted to share some photos with you all. I was afraid the turnout would be small because it was only days from our big release party (photos of that coming soon!), but so many people showed up that the staff had to keep putting out extra chairs!

I talked for a little bit about the book and Colette Patterns, and then we had a lively Q&A. The questions were great, it was really my favorite part of the afternoon. We followed it up with a fabric swap and signing.

(Oh, and you may notice I’m wearing my newest Peony, in red silk georgette. You’ll see it again because I also wore it to the party Thursday! It was my final project for the Fall Palette Challenge and I LOVE IT.)

Caitlin looks like she’s having fun, right?

You might recognize Jade (above) from the cover of the book. She was picking up an extra copy for her grandmother. Isn’t that awesome?

And speaking of grandmothers, look who came up all the way from southern california for the signing! That’s my cousin Brooke (and baby Charlie), great aunt Yolie, aunt Marie, me, my mom, and nonna! The lighting is terrible in this picture, but I had to share.

It is no surprise at all that the event was a success – the book is amazing! I’m halfway through because I’m reading it slowly and carefully and only when I have some quiet so I can concentrate on every single word. It is derserving of that attention! I’m learning so much that is useful and can’t wait to try a new project putting these skills to work. Thanks for sharing the photos – even if it makes me super jealous I’m not in Portland – it’s so nice to see all the women who inspiried you! Congratulations.

Congratulations, I can’t WAIT for the book to be published in the UK (not long now…) Your red Peony is beautiful, I just got the pattern today and am itching to make it! Love the final photo, your mum and nonna both look so youthful. x

I’d wear a Peony like that every day. It’s beautiful, the scarf is a great accessory for it.

That’s a lovely picture of your family. I agree with Jane, your Nonna and mom look very youthful. There is good skin in your family.

I’m a scarf fanatic. I wear one almost every day when it’s cool enough (which is almost always around here)!

Congratulations on a successful book launch. I wanted to be at Powell’s so much but we have been hammered with snow over here on the east side. Too dangerous to drive Hwy97 and 58 …

Oh, I love the picture with you and your family! It’s wonderful – Nonna is so cool! They all must be so proud of you!!

Your red Peony is gorgeous, Sarai! You look absolutely smashing!! I love the addition of the scarf, too. I love Jade’s look and just cut my hair short like hers, except mine is dark purple. :)

My heartfelt congratulations to you on your book. It is absolutely and essential for each and every seamstress to have. Well done, Sarai!

Thanks, I have been way into red this season. I guess because it stands out so well against the grey skies. :)

How nice! Will you be doing a book signing in Seattle?

Thank you so much Sarai. I was at the book signing and I loved the Q & A session as well. I second what everyone has said–that red shade is YOUR color (I was admiring that dress). Aside from your beautiful patterns, you are SO NICE. Congrats on a job well done. (And psst! you can gather quite a collection of vintage silk scarves from William Temple House and Goodwill on 21st and West Burnside–I can’t believe I’m sharing my secret water hole, but there it is.)

Ha, thanks! The goodwill by our studio seems to suck for that sort of thing.

Powell’s is awesome! When I think about it, I am sorely tempted to leave the confines of the great state of Texas and head back to Portland–at least for a short visit.
Glad you made time for your fans there!
