Design Inspiration: Covered Belts

I love the way dresses look with their matching belts, so I put together this inspiration post for you! Tomorrow I’ll be showing you how to create your own matching belt. You can change the look of an outfit so much with the type of fabric you use on a belt. I recently made my own belt and put the stripes vertically along the belt and angled on the buckle. Even if you can’t find self-cover buckle kits, there are many kinds of belt buckles available online (give Etsy a go). Have you made your own belt or have ideas for making one? What would you pair it with?

Patterned Belts

Green Paisley Dress, Blue & Green Dress, Martha Manning Dress, Evan Picone Skirt

Solid Belts

Lace Wiggle Dress, Daisy Applique Pink Dress, Yellow Floral Dress, Blue Jacquard Dress, Silky Pink Dress

Beautiful! I especially like the yellow flowered dress with the vertical pleats. I’d like to see a tutorial of that!

I love matching belts and belt kits! Just so you know, I sell fresh belt & buckle kits in my shop plus several accessories that make making them up a breeze. Can’t wait to see your ideas for making a belt!

I’ve made my own matching belts for vintage style dresses for years and I have to say that Sunni’s kits are simply marvelous! I’m glad she chimed in with her source. She also held a beltmaking series via her blog where she addressed the issue of how to attach eyelets which has always been a sore spot for me when I make my own. Definitely check it out!

I don’t know how I missed how key belts are to so many dresses. I’ve never really been one to belt clothing until I started seeing how other people did it.
Inspiring is right.

Wow CAitlin, what fab dresses, what a load of inspiration – the pink with the daisies is just amazing – I only use belts with pants that are a bit big in the waist, but you have totally pushed me to try something new. I really look forward to your tutorial, thank you!
