I think it would be sooo fun in the Art Deco Floral, but the Green Floral is beautiful as well!

It would be so cute in the Gray Sixpence First Impression Floral Cotton Voile Fabric by Anna Maria Horner.

November 2, 2011 #

It’s not an easy task, as I’m used to touching and feeling the fabric. But I’d take this http://www.hartsfabric.com/lace-fabric59567.html lace and put it over this silver (looks gray to me) http://www.hartsfabric.com/habutai-silk-fabric61024.html silk stuff. I think It would look really nice.

This is a fabulous giveaway! (and it was fun looking for fabrics for the Peony). I have several I really like, but the Retro Geometric Chiffon wins out in the end. http://www.hartsfabric.com/geometric-chiffon-fabric-fashion-apparel61697.html Thanks to both of you!

WOWOWOWOW! Check this out: http://www.hartsfabric.com/retro-ruby-star-rising-fabric-kokka-melody-miller-view-finder-reels60177.html

That print is crazy awesome! I could totally see it on the short sleeved Peony with a contrast belt. That website has amazing fabrics, thanks for featuring them :D

I keep having to remind myself to buy darker fabrics for dresses, since I am so drawn to light and bright novelty prints. For the Peony, I am going to have to go with the purple Swiss Dot. That’s dark, right? And not too novelty?

Stephenie

November 2, 2011 #

I’d use two different fabric patterns, this for the body of the dress
http://www.hartsfabric.com/cloud9-organic-fabric61836.html

and this for the waistband part
http://www.hartsfabric.com/cloud9-nature-walk-fabric-moss60694.html

just to mix things up a little!

Pink Tahari Satin Fabric http://www.hartsfabric.com/tahari-satin-fabric55334.html
would be my choice when making the Peony dress into a party dress for the holidays. It is the same color as the beautiful, silky Peonys in my garden.

November 2, 2011 #

Oooh, I think I would go with Liberty of London Geometric: http://www.hartsfabric.com/liberty-london-geometric-63178.html.

I love the Blue Chevron Silk Chiffon Fabric for the Peony dress.

Jenna

November 2, 2011 #

Great site! I liked the dark bamboo-cotton denim; I’ve knit with that blend and love the softness. But then I saw the wonderful chiffons – Sheer Polka Dot Chiffon Fabric Turquoise
– and I wondered if you could underline the chiffon and use it? I’ve never done that before.

I promised my wife I’d make her a new dress for work, and she is partial to black-and-white prints, so this one caught my eye: http://www.hartsfabric.com/rayon-fabric-fashion-floral-black-white59208.html I think she’d like it!

November 2, 2011 #

I think I would use this double gauze cotton in a lovely whimsical floral print. http://www.hartsfabric.com/naomi-ito-japanese-fabric-floral61863.html and possibly pair it with this stripe… http://www.hartsfabric.com/naomi-ito-japanese-fabric-stripes61868.html or this wine colored double gauze …. http://www.hartsfabric.com/japanese-import-fabric-double-gauze61358.html for the belt. Definitely would make the short sleeve dress, and would have to be very conscientious of the print while laying out and cutting the pattern. Would make a really lovely spring dress.

I’ve fallen in love with this Hemp Silk in Cranberry: http://www.hartsfabric.com/hemp-silk-fabric61047.html

I think it’d make a luxurious Peony.

November 2, 2011 #

I know it’s temporarily out of stock, but I think the black silk noil (http://www.hartsfabric.com/blacksilknoil.html) would make a lovely dress (or the celedon silk noil for something more springy).

Gosh – what a generous offer and amazing choice of fabrics…swoon! I’m torn between most of them, but then my eye was caught by the ‘Lace Topped Grey Wool’, which would be warm (lined obviously!!) for the Christmas season, and I think could be glammed up and played down appropriately for lots of things. …Ok, mostly glammed up…!

Actually, most of all, I’d just be fascinated to see this fabric in the flesh, to get a sense of what it’s like and how it drapes, moves, catches the light.

http://www.hartsfabric.com/wool-fabric-fashion-lace59569.html

The Cloud 9 organic fabric in ‘Petal Pusher’ is also a wonderfully crisp pattern, although I’m not quite sure of it’s weight on the website.

So many other fab suggestions in the comments above too.

Taylor

November 2, 2011 #

I couldn’t pick just one! Although I suppose underlining a sheer fabric could count as one fabric. I’d want to use the Black Chiffon Eyelet Fabric (http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-lace-fabric61082.html) underlined with the Robert Kaufman Pure Organic Cotton Fabric in Pear (http://www.hartsfabric.com/organic-cotton-fabric-green61673.html). I feel like it would capture that late 50’s early 60’s style that peony so elegantly embodies.

Annette

November 2, 2011 #

I love their kid prints. So many cute ones. If I was picking for me it would be a dark colored satin/cotton.

Rachel

November 2, 2011 #

I love ‘Liberty of London Tana Lawn Fabric Green Berry Bush Black’ and would make the Peony sash in a solid black to coordinate. I’d wear it every day!

Helen Bennett

November 2, 2011 #

Oooh it would have to be the Embroidered Floral Silk Eyelet Fashion Fabric Red (http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-fabric-fashion59212.html) – that coupled with the Peony dress would make the perfect christmas party dress!

Jennifer

November 2, 2011 #

November 2, 2011 #

Huh, what an incredibly tough choice. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another online shop with quite that variety of fabric – especially the prints, so lovely!

So, I guess my first choice would be the Nani Iro Molly Cloth Blue Floral. The color is so beautiful and I have a thing for florals lately! I’d pair it with a teal cummerbund belt to match the flowers. :)

Oh, so many choices. I do love a polka dot and a gift certificate might have me spending more per yard than I normally am drawn to so…
Embroidered Dot Dupioni Silk Fabric Berry 54″ http://www.hartsfabric.com/34526.html is my fabric of choice.

November 2, 2011 #

I think I would use the Black Lace Topped Grey Wool (http://www.hartsfabric.com/wool-fabric-fashion-lace59569.html). I think the Peony dress with 3/4 sleeves would make a great winter holiday dress in wool.

Alice

November 2, 2011 #

This may be a bit thicker than suggested, but this (http://www.hartsfabric.com/eco-hemp-wool-plaid-64201.html) wool would be amazingly cozy when it gets snowy.

Stacy

November 2, 2011 #

I know the dress doesn’t call for a jersey, but I think it would look and feel fabulous in their Cranberry Silk Jersey. It would be perfect for the holidays!

Suzanne

November 2, 2011 #

I’d make the three-quaters sleeves version of Peony in Hart’s Habutai Silk Fabric Midnight with a black belt.

November 2, 2011 #

I would make the short-sleeved version in the Purple Floral Nani Iro Double Gauze Cotton Fabric for a comfortable, easy-care work and play dress. I’d pair it will tall caramel boots and a chartreuse cardigan!

Thank you for introducing me to Hart Fabrics…. but curses for sending me to another shop with fabulous fabrics to lust over. Wow! So many pretty fabrics its hard to decide…but there is a standout. I love, love, love the Liberty of London cotton geometric http://www.hartsfabric.com/liberty-london-geometric-63178.html Yummy! At $42.99, the $100 would not cover the cost of fabric for the Peony dress, but it would allow me to buy the fabric at a price that fits my budget. :) Both the fabric and the pattern are on my wish list. The pattern has been on for a while, the fabric lust is the product of blog-wasting (DH’s term for time-wasting while reading sewing and crafting blogs).

November 2, 2011 #

Well, honestly I still want to make Crepe first and the Nani Iro dark blue double gauze would be absolutely perfect for that – do you think it would work for Peony too? If not then perhaps the Liberty vintage flowers for a cute vintage look.

JoeyR

November 2, 2011 #

A tough choice but I would opt for the “Across the Pond Aster Sky Organic Fabric”… Its a beautiful print and apt because I am from England! I also like the fact that I could feel good because it would look striking but would also be environmentally friendly with the organic choice.

Robyn

November 2, 2011 #

Not sure what type of fabric can be used, but I would want to use Greenfield Hill Voile- Cranberry Mrs Aster by Denyse Schmidt with Blush Pink Designer Cotton Voile as the contrasting belt using version 1, although it would probably look quite nice in version 2 also.

http://www.hartsfabric.com/denyse-schmidt-voile-fabric-free-spirit60160.html

I think I’d keep it simple, and go with this silk voile in purple, my favourite colour:

I am a sucker for floral fabric so I would have to choose: http://www.hartsfabric.com/nani-iro-double-gauze-fabric-fashion-apparel-fabrics-cotton62029.html with a contrasting solid fabric, maybe a mustard. I can picture this being styled with some colored tights and my favorite boots.

Samina

November 2, 2011 #

I got lucky! My favorite fabric is right at the top – the Duo Tone Floral Silk Chiffon Fabric Red White ( http://www.hartsfabric.com/floral-silk-chiffon-fabric61793.html ), although the Rayon Challis Fabric Fashion Black and White Floral ( http://www.hartsfabric.com/rayon-fabric-fashion-floral-black-white59208.html ) would be gorgeous too.

Ashley at The Feisty Redhead

November 2, 2011 #

Such great options, I’m going to add Hart’s to my list of fabric shops! I think you’ve gotten so many great suggestions esp. the wool/cotton blends. How about a lovely lace overlay for a beautiful holiday dress? Like this one: http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-lace-fabric61082.html

Tough decision, but I think I’d go with the Yellow Plaid Italian Silk Chiffon Fabric. I attempt to not fall into any sort of ‘clothing rut’ with every garment I make. I love yellow this year (but own no yellow made-by-me items) and I don’t own a single plaid dress, so this would be a two birds, one stone sort of thing. :)

Thanks so much for the opportunity!

November 2, 2011 #

The floral rayon challis caught my eye. Thank you for the giveaway.

Lori

November 2, 2011 #

I would go with the floral rayon challis fabric here: http://www.hartsfabric.com/floral-rayon-challis-fabric61251.html
I LOVE the bright colors! My second choice would be a ponte knit, maybe navy?

Sara C.

November 2, 2011 #

I think I would make it in either Heather Ross Far Far Away Chapter 2 Fabric Cotton and Linen Green Sleeping Beauty (http://www.hartsfabric.com/heather-ross-fabric57932.html) or Cotton Lawn Fabric Orange Darling Dots (http://www.hartsfabric.com/cotton-lawn-fabric-dots61321.html). Both of those fabrics would fit in perfectly with my fall/winter palette!

November 2, 2011 #

I’m not sure if this would be the best fabric for the pattern, but is so hard to pass up such a lovely mustard color so I would use Echino’s Solids Linen Cotton in Mustard (http://www.hartsfabric.com/echino-solids-mustard-56492.html).
I also really love the Nani Iro Molly Cloth Floral in Blue (http://www.hartsfabric.com/nani-iro-japanese-62824.html).

I am actually planning on making the Peony dress so I can wear it at my friend’s wedding next year in October. My friend and I are super into Halloween, so with his approval, I decided that I would dress as a Mother Nature-inspired wedding guest, complete with fruit accented fascinator! The Leaf Dupioni Silk Curtain Fabric Green would really make it perfect. I would make the belt in the Silk Cotton Voile Pumpkin.

Lynne L.

November 2, 2011 #

I would most love the Peony in the adorable (yet unfortunately out of stock) Polka Dots Double Gauze Japanese Fabric in Cream. Though, the Black and White Floral Rayon Challis also seems like it would be lovely, and lend itself to mixing well with in my wardrobe.
